Anticipated timeline: Weeks 1 (July 6th - July 10th) Work with the Camp Director/Lead Camp Counselor to help Store Items for Summer Camp. Support the Dissemination of information to incoming thinkSTEM Campers participants. Complete Compliance Training as needed/requested in a timely fashion. Attend and engage with Camp Staff Orientation & Training(s). Finalize and disseminate information on camp to students and guardians. Weeks 3-4 (July 13th - July 24th) Camp Operation: M-F, 8:30 am-4:30 pm Execute Camp alongside Camp Counselors, with the support of the Lead Camp Counselor and Camp Director. Week 5 (July 27th - July 3rd) Debrief and complete camp inventory, storage, and cleanup. POSITION OBJECTIVE The thinkSTEM Camp Counselor will guide and encourage students participating in our STEM camp to explore and learn about different engineering concepts and pathways. As a counselor, you will collaborate with other counselors and the Camp Director to provide a safe and enriching summer experience. You will be responsible for setting up and leading an engineering-focused curriculum. With guidance from the thinkSTEM staff, you will create an engaging, fun, and positive learning experience that helps students achieve success. Additionally, you will get to know each student individually, helping evaluate and assess their progress in the camp. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Management: Provide support to Camp Participants and Counselors as assigned. Work as a team player in a collaborative environment to engage and solve problems. Lead hands-on activities that explore engineering concepts Help students examine ways that engineering affects their everyday lives and encourage them to think creatively about how to solve problems Support the development of a positive and inclusive camp culture where campers feel supported, encouraged, and inspired to explore STEM fields. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, group projects, field trips, and interactive workshops that ignite campers' curiosity and passion for science and engineering. Teach students to use software and operate tools and equipment at think[box] Provide guidance and resources for campers' research Develop students' presentation skills and guide them as they prepare to present their chosen engineering field 3. Safety and Well-being: Ensure campers are always supervised to maintain a safe and enjoyable camp environment. Set up, prepare, and clean up materials and space for each session Understand and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures. Served as mentor, resource, and facilitator of summer program procedures and policies Abide by and enforce university rules and procedures, and report unsafe and inappropriate behavior 4. Logistics and Operations: Adhere to all camp operations' logistical aspects, including scheduled activities, meals, field trips, and use of think[box] equipment. NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Occasional office-related tasks. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervision of junior camp counselors, volunteers, and students. WORKING CONDITIONS This is an active position that involves working with youth. Most of the work will occur indoors. However, significant walking on the CWRU campus is required. Some travel will be required for field trips related to the field. Qualifications CWRU students are in good standing and have fields of knowledge in education or engineering. Experience with youth in a formal or informal setting, such as babysitting, volunteering, coaching, or tutoring, is a plus. Passion for engineering and a desire to inspire and encourage young minds Energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate others A strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and level of maturity Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills Team player with the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and staff PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of the course EMAE 160/ ENGR 130 Experience with think[box] software and equipment Experience leading groups of middle school students Experience with coding and a strong understanding of basic syntax for Arduino programming Case Western Reserve University is an equal opportunity employer.
